About

Helen Cowdy

Hello and welcome to my site.

I’ve been drawing since I was a child but like many, took a different path and lost myself for a while. I’ve worked in Digitisation, photographing and creating digital copies of original artworks and type specimens at places like The Natural History Museum, The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and The Linnean Society. I retrained as a Paper Conservator and had some amazing experiences working on beautiful collections of historic art and archives. I always knew I wanted art in my life somehow!

In 2015 I made the move from London to Wiltshire, and have found a fantastic and welcoming community, where I have slowly started to believe I can be an artist. I have reconnected with friends and family as well as my long-held love of nature, being outside, observing and exploring.

My art is mostly watercolours, with a few experiments in mixed media; often a contrast between the formal and elegant ‘Alphabet’ series and the looser, flowing acrylic paintings such as the Menopausal Women.

Since being back in Wiltshire have been running Art Club and genuinely believe that everyone has a creative steak in them. My Art Club is less ‘teaching’ and more confidence building; we look at techniques, experiments and make mistakes! Art Club is for everyone, take a look and get in touch to book, there are sessions for children, teens and adults, 1:1, groups and parties. Art Club is ever evolving, and new projects are added all the time. I learn so much from my Primary after school sessions and thoroughly enjoy working with the children.

Currently my work can be seen here on my website. I have previously been at a few local markets and hope to return to some of them soon – why not sign up to my newsletter to find out more?
